Where to donate??

So, I would like to tithe part of my earnings from Columbia this year (Go CU; love you guys!) but am finding it extraordinarily hard to winnow through the many fine causes, charities, programs, etc, that are out there. I am especially committed to organizations that work for women’s rights, maternal and child health, environmental and animal welfare, and poverty reduction. Charitynavigator.org is helpful as is Nicholas Kristof but I am still somewhat overwhelmed. I mean, even if I were to choose just one of the categories I noted above, say animal welfare, there are so many groups doing great work! Oceana, NRDC, Elephant Sanctuary, TUSK, and so forth. 

If you have any suggestions for me, please pass them on.
