Potatoes

Y'all, I have a Sunday confession. I love Alice Waters, I love what she's done, what she stands for, what she cares about, what she does. And I have her beautiful tome about vegetables which I refer to frequently. However, I must say that I'm always slightly underwhelmed and then feel a bit guilty but also the need to modify in some way. T and I went to Chez Panisse years ago and felt the same about our dining experience there; everything was so lovely but just not real memorable. Anyway, we made AW's roasted potatoes with thyme and garlic tonight. The result was, wait for it, lovely. But it needed something. So, I tossed in crumbled, peppered goat cheese and that result was smashing. Lick your chops good! So, AW, I tip my hat to you but I add a Louisiana, give-it-some-fat flair.

Dissonance in Georetown

Let me give my weekly thanks for Friday afternoon babysitting!I headed to g'town for coffee beans and the dry cleaning feeling like a somewhat-stylish marm which is not an optimal feeling but ranks higher than schlump!

Anyway, at the coffee shop, I said hi to the guy who's always there when I go in; he said hi back and told me I looked good. People, I'm pretty sure my mouth dropped open but I tried to pull myself together quickly and be cool. Friends, I will take this compliment. It was even better than being carded!

I then ran into Sephora to see if they had something, and I think Snoop Dogg waited on me. Much less charismatic than the real thing though...

Scarves in the summertime. It's not that I don't like the look, but if you're going to wear an unnecessary item, at least make it look casual. I just saw a woman who looked as if she were being strangled by hers AND she was holding the ends together in a death grip. Nothing looked right about it all. Anyway, another moment of thanks for these couple hours off. I'm looking forward to dinner!
