16 April 2020: Birthday + Humor

Despite all the weirdness and isolation, today has been lovely. I have FaceTimed with family and loved all the texts, cards, and calls I got, so thank you, friends. Round 1 of my cake was sublime, and look what Tom got me (which was exactly what I wanted)! A chainsaw!

Hear me roar, 44! There are trees to fell and limbs to remove (and frustration to get out).

Then, as if things couldn’t get better, Tom and Ol built me one of the squirrel picnic tables I shared with you with delight a few weeks back. Observe.

We’re going to mount this on the fence, but for now…

I have tried to avoid the news today, because duh, and am very much looking forward to my virtual birthday party organized by friends that starts in a few hours. In the meantime, your amusement for today.

Y’all, guess what just arrived? A gorgeous, festive, perfect, special, sublime chocolate Doberge cake from Gambino’s Bakery in New Orleans. It’s for my birthday, which is tomorrow (4/16/20, 4+16=20, love how those numbers work like that), and I am beyond excited. Haven’t had one since my 40th!

If you, too, are down about the orange stankweasel for stealing more than 3,500 masks from the national stockpile for personal White House use WHILE discouraging the public from wearing them, threatening to refuse needed funding to the US Postal Service, and withholding funding from the World Health Organization, you need to laugh. Also, mail a ton of letters and buy a ton of stamps. What is a country without a mail service, FFS? For dog-lovers, the three links at the bottom are cute, especially the first one.
